Recipe: Strawberry Clafoutis
Living on the Sunshine Coast brings a multitude of culinary benefits, one of which is access to the amazing strawberries that are grown in the region. Sunshine Coast strawberries are currently in season, and some of the best can be found at the Noosa Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. I incorporate strawberries into my cooking in many ways, but because it’s winter and a particularly cold one, I thought I’d share my recipe for Strawberry Clafoutis.
The Noosa Longweekend Festival: Crab Crawl
Everyone loves a long weekend, but you’ve gotta love Noosa for organising a 10-day long weekend festival! The Noosa Longweekend Festival is a 10-day festival of theatre, literature, music, dance, film, visual arts, cuisine and forums. Naturally the cuisine events were my priority interest, so when the tickets went on sale a couple of months ago I was quick to secure my tickets for the Crab Crawl lunch. Lucky I got in quickly, as apparently the tickets were sold out within 24 hours!
Luscious lunches at Sirocco
It’s no secret that a growing number of restaurants and cafes in Noosa are doing it tough at the moment. The combined consequences of the economic downturn, the adverse Queensland weather earlier this year and the strong Australian dollar mean that the number of visitors to Noosa have dropped significantly. As a result, restaurant patrons are down and in a bid to stay afloat, local eateries are having to put on their creative thinking caps and come up with ideas to put bums on seats. One such restaurant doing that successfully is Sirocco at Noosaville.
Chocolate Heaven in Noosa
For anyone that loves chocolate (and let’s face it, that’s most of us), the best chocolate to be found in Noosa is without doubt at Cocoa Chocolat. Offering an exquisite selection of hand-crafted chocolates and truffles made from the very finest ingredients, a visit to their shop on Hastings Street or their factory and shop at Eumundi is not to be missed.

I’ll have my coffee with views, please
I like to think I’m not a creature of habit, but I do have several rituals that I wouldn’t miss for the world. One of them is a bi-weekly morning swim on Noosa’s Main Beach with my mate Carol, followed by a coffee at Sails. Okay, the temperature has dropped a few degrees in recent weeks and the swim has been replaced by a walk, but the coffee routine remains the same.
2011 Noosa Food & Wine Festival
The Noosa Food and Wine Festival was held this weekend, and what a great weekend it was! Recognised as Australia’s leading food and wine event and now in its 8th year, the festival promised us an all-star line-up of celebrities, passionate chefs, fabulous food and wine and great entertainment. And I can confirm that it well and truly delivered.
Recipe: Key Lime Pie
Limes are abundant on the Sunshine Coast, and my lime tree at home is currently full of ripe fruit. I’m a big fan of seasonal cooking, so felt it necessary to share my recipe for Key Lime Pie.
This tangy and delicious dessert originates from Florida in the US and traditionally uses key limes, a more tart and bitter lime not easily found in Australia. My version of Key Lime Pie uses regular limes, and is super-easy to make. It’s an ideal dessert for your next dinner party or barbeque as the whole thing can be made in advance. Enjoy!
Welcome to Noosa Foodie Blog!
Welcome to Noosa Foodie blog! As the name implies, this blog is a foodie’s perspective on all that is food in the Noosa region. Whether it be fresh produce, local products, restaurants and cafes, foodie events and experiences or the people behind the food, you will read about it here.
I am passionate about food, cooking and eating, and I’m extremely happy and proud to call Noosa home. I own and operate a local business called life’s a feast. My core activity is a boutique cooking school where I run hands-on cooking classes from my home in Noosaville. I also assist and guide people with their home entertaining needs, and run tours of the local Noosa Farmers’ Market. How lucky am I to be able to do what I love for a job in such a beautiful environment?
This is my second blog. My first, Entertaining Made Easy was created to inspire its readers to cook and entertain. I’ve created Noosa Foodie to share with you the wonderful food that comes out of the Noosa region, and hope that it inspires you to visit Noosa and see for yourself what a special place it is.
